Great Gift Ideas for Leaders
If you are looking for some ideas of gifts you can give to another leader in your life, or perhaps you need some fresh thoughts of how to answer the question when others ask you, “what do you want?” here are a few suggestions you can use.
Some of these recommendations are physical items you can put to use and several are subscription services that you can sign up for or gift to others. There is some debate on subscription services, but one of the best things about the majority of them - they allow you to start and stop (or pause) fairly easily. That way, if you find yourself behind or just extra busy for a month or two, you can put your subscription on hiatus and then jump back in when your schedule frees up. Let’s jump into some of the ideas.
Audible Subscription
This is an excellent service from Amazon that provide access to most books in audio format. The Audible app is available for nearly every device or platform known, so there are few limitations on where you can listen to your books. You can get a single book subscription per month for under $200 annually.
Full Focus Planner
This is a paper planner, an analog tool. It is built on the framework that Michael Hyatt speaks to within his book, Free to Focus. It looks like it is well set up for easy use each day. This program has been designed to be a quarterly planner where you can track your goals each quarter. You can purchase individual quarter planners or subscribe to the annual program and receive all four planners. This does allow you to give it try for one quarter and then determine if it is the best process for you.
Online Training Courses
There are several sites available for different types of training online. Depending on what your interests are or those of the person you are gifting to, you can determine the best options. Again, many sites allow you to choose in increments of time ranging from monthly to annually. Some websites you may want to check out are: masterclass.com, coursera .org, or Udemy.com.
LinkedIn Learning
LinkedIn’s site is the former Lynda.com platform and offers an array of topics from leadership competencies to technical training on popular software titles. It is easy to use and really does offer a huge assortment of areas to learn about. The site also provides the ability to use as audio only allowing you to use in your car or while on the train or bus. LinkedIn Learning is available for about $300 annually.
NeuYear Calendar
If you know someone or are someone that still likes to use a wall calendar to plan and organize events in your life, then the NeuYear calendar may be for you. These are simple, very clean wall calendars that come in different formats to allow you to plan the way you want. Need your week to start on Monday instead of Sunday? They have that. Need it vertically oriented instead of horizontally? That option is available. Check out their website - neuyear.net. Calendars and planning products start as low as $9.95.
Seminars or in-person courses
There are tons of different local events that are available from familiar names that can be a great leading and development opportunity for you or someone else. Sites such as Franklin Covey, Gallup, the Ken Blanchard Group all have events throughout the year you can sign up for. You can visit their websites for locations and dates that are best for your needs. Also, Entreleadership from the Dave Ramsey group and several other popular leadership authors (Michael Hyatt, Jon Gordon) conduct sessions in different places throughout the year that may be of interest.
Blinkist or other Executive Summary Subscriptions
Blinkist is a mobile application that allows, via subscription, access to leadership book summaries. While similar to other Book Summary sites, Blinkist is right on your phone or tablet and offers both a written summary or the ability to listen to the summary. The written summaries are easy to follow along with and feel more like PowerPoint type presentations instead of longer-form multi-page executive summaries. Depending on your preferences, Blinkist may be a great option to look at and is only $100/year when you subscribe annually.
Hopefully these will give you a few ideas on things you can provide to members of your team, colleagues, or for yourself as a gift giving idea during this holiday season. Everyone can benefit from a gift that will help continue your personal development journey.
